What is Guasha

Has Guasha ever heard of an ancient cure? Wrinkle removal is one of Guasha's many benefits. Read on for more details.

Gua means “scratch” and sha translates as “sand”. We also refer to this as "Krokan". In fact, in Guasha's treatment, the therapist rubs the skin with a flat jade or quartz stone.

What is Guasha

These days these methods are part of an alternative or natural remedy. Guasha's goal is to help solve some health problems. It helps to relax muscles, relieve pain, promote tissue drainageand improve circulation.

It also seems to reduce wrinkles, so I started using Guasha as part of anti-aging treatment, i.e. for cosmetic purposes.

Guasha's Tools

Jade or quartz stone is the main tool in the Guasha technique, and it is usually heart-shaped.

Each part of the body has a different shape. For example, some look like fish and some look like bird's feet, while others are rectangular. In addition, there are jade massage rollers, facial oils, and moisturizing creams.

Guasha Benefits

Advocates claim that Sasha can successfully treat a variety of ailments, but this has not been fully studied scientificallyAnd this technique depends on the type of stone.

For example, jade has a soothing effect, and quartz reduces inflammation, improves circulation, and promotes lymphatic drainage.

Migraine, arthritis, neck and back pain

Guasha has traditionally been used to treat symptoms of a variety of inflammatory diseases as well as chronic pain. It's also claimed to help relieve migraine headaches and help relieve neck and back pain caused by bad postures.

Massage using the Guasha technique relieves muscle tension. Studies have shown that this has been an effective treatment for chronic neck pain compared to other techniques such as thermal pads.

In addition, clinical studies have indicated that it is effective in treating migraines even in patients who have not responded to conventional analgesics.

This stone massage can be effective in reducing the pain associated with migraines.

Menopausal syndrome and swollen chest

Menopause is a series of symptoms that appear as a woman approaches menopause. The most common signs are:

  • Irregular sleep time
  • Missing or excessive menstrual and menstrual pain
  • unrest
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome
  • Feeling choking or choking

However, according to one study, guasha may help reduce menopausal symptoms in some women. In addition, guasha has been used to treat chest swelling.

Therefore, studies have shown that women who receive Guasha massage after childbirth are less likely to experience chest congestion. And this greatly improves the breastfeeding process.

Cosmetic purpose

Currently, the interest in Guasha is mostly focused on programs for cosmetic purposes. People use guasha as an anti-aging treatment because it improves wrinkles and softens the skin.

For this purpose, people use guasha on their back, buttocks, arms, and legs. They also do facial massages with guasha. The goal is to promote blood circulation and absorb the used products.

Contraindications

Guasha is a natural and non-invasive treatment, so it is safe. However, rubbing or scratching the skin with a massage stone can cause bruising and disappear after a few days.

And there are some contraindications.

  • Those who have recently had surgery, especially those who have had surgery on the area to be massaged, are not suitable.
  • This technique may break some small blood vessels, making it unsuitable for people with coagulation problems or on anticoagulant therapy.
  • Finally, do not rub against injuries such as blows, cuts, cuts, swelling, or blood clots.

How to use Guasha

Guasha techniques should be performed by experienced and appropriately trained personnel. And when massaging the body, the stones should slide upwards and in only one direction. The same applies to the face. Let's look at some examples.

  • Neck : Starting at the nape of the neck, use the heart-shaped side and move upward and inward while applying more pressure to the base.
  • Face contour: The same side of the stone follows the contour of the face, moving from the chin toward the ears. Apply light pressure at the end of the movement.
  • Cheekbones: From the nose to the cheekbones, the cheekbones move several times to the ears, with some pressure applied at the end of each movement.
  • Nose lip wrinkles: Here, it moves diagonally from the tip of the lips toward the chin, and similarly moves diagonally toward the edge of the eyebrows.
  • Eye contour: The therapist draws a line toward the temple, starting with the eyebrows and keeping it moving upwards using the sides of the heart-shaped stone.
  • Between the forehead and eyebrows: The therapist moves to the upper hairline, applying some pressure to the convex side of the stone between the eyebrows.

Anti-aging with guasha for cosmetic purposes is now widespread.

Proven effectiveness

According to detractors, the Guasha treatment has no scientific basis. It's true that massage strengthens the muscles and increases blood vessel production, but it is said that these effects occur no matter what you use. Stones are not needed and the effect is not because of them.

However, several studies have shown that patients' neck pain intensity decreased after receiving Guasha treatment for just one week. Another study suggests that this technique helps patients restore mobility and flexibility and reduces the need for pain medications.

Finally, in a study conducted at the University of Peking, guasha was used to activate the immune response and reduce inflammation in PR8-infected mice. This technique suppressed inflammatory penetration. However, this was a controlled study conducted only on animals.

Guasha removing makeup at night

Jade or quartz stone adapts to the contours of the skin for stimulation as long as the therapist works properly.

Another recommendation to keep in mind is to apply guasha to your clean, moist face after removing all makeup. Doing it at night before going to bed can help reduce aging as well as relax your muscles.
